Hi Folks,
some of you may have received a text message telling about a potentially historic change occuring in West Papua with the possibility of unification of West Papuan people in rejecting special autonomy, with the Pro-Jakarta Papuan Peoples Assembly possibly about to also call for a referendum. Whatever happens on the ground, people in Papua will most likely take to the streets in an inevitability of support for their genuine aspirations.
We have been getting indications of meetings being held by TNI Leaders like Maj-Gen Zamroni and Col. Barihuddin Siagian (indicted as war criminals for their roles in the 1999 East Timor violence) with militia leaders in Manokwari and Jayapura, and are preparing for more brutal military and militia suppression of any expression of Papuan peoples’ legitimate aspirations, including any display of the banned Morning Star flag, even on item as innocuous as bags, wristbands and mobile phone covers.
This is a historic moment and we need the eyes of the world on Papua right now. We also need to ensure that the TNI are monitored and pressured so they do not run amok as a repeat of their roles in East TImor. Unfortunately the conditions (and Indonesian military commanders) are exactly the same as in East Timor in early 1999, so we need to make sure that what happened there never happens again.
More information as it comes to will be in the media, and on ths site. For more information on this situation and the background, please visit the news section of www.freewestpapua.org
I have been asked by several figures with West papua and in the Independence movement to be the international media co-ordinator for getting good coverage of this situation.
Unfortunately this work does cost money, and requires a degree of support. So now I am asking for your support. As I am currently mobile, I need to pay for phone calls, internet time, and general costs for organising an international media presence to cover potentially one of the most historic opportunities for freedom in our region. I am also without any salary support at the moment, so all donations are greatfully recieved and will enable me to continue this important work for human security in our region. Please donate by clicking on the button on the front page.
If you are a journalist that would like to cover this, please contact me on +61 (0) 409 268 978 or send me an email at manukoreri(at)riseup.net. My GPG public key is attached for discussions regarding movements, locations and people.
